Marlborough Lions to host 25th annual triathlon

Marlborough – The Marlborough Lions Club will hold its 25th Annual Spring Sprint Triathlon at the Wayside Racquet & Swim Club, 80 Broadmeadow Rd., Sunday, May 19, at 8 a.m. The annual triathlon is sanctioned by USA Triathlon and managed by Fiske Independent Race Management. It consists of a 250-yard pool swim (5 laps), a 9.3-mile scenic bike route and a 3.2-mile run. After the race, there will be an awards ceremony, music, treats and sponsor giveaways.

This year, a group of 50 Sudanese athletes and staff from the Sudanese Education Fund will be participating in the triathlon to raise money for the fund.

Entry fees for the race are $70 for an individual or $80 for a relay team. For non-members of USA Triathlon, there is also a single day $12 license fee to participate.? There is a $10 late fee for race day registration. Athletes are strongly encouraged to register online at www.firm-racing.com by Thursday, May 16.? Part of the race proceeds will benefit the Marlborough Lions, who provide vision services to local residents who have limited financial resources. The organization also collects eyeglasses for distribution in other parts of the world as part of its international mission to improve vision and eliminate blindness worldwide.
