Obit Richard LarssenBerlin – Richard A. Larssen, 78, of Berlin, died at his home, surrounded by his loving family, Friday, May 31, 2013. He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Audrey M. (Hamlin) Larssen of Berlin.

Richard was born in Arlington and raised in Lexington, son of the late Wilhelm and Marion (Squires) Larssen. He attended local schools in Lexington and was a longtime member of the Massachusetts National Guard. He resided in Chelmsford and Marlborough for a short time before moving to Berlin in 1972.

He owned and operated Larssen Farm in Berlin for many years following his purchase of the property in 1972. He truly cherished his farming career and the raising of his pigs was his true passion.

Richard enjoyed playing solitaire in his spare time and loved to be outdoors hunting or fishing during the seasons. He was an avid sports fan and especially enjoyed a good NASCAR race. He loved and cherished his entire family and they will truly miss him.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his children, Richard Larssen and his wife Charlene of Hudson, Lalah Larssen Peirce and her husband Wayne Peirce of Belmont, N.H., Peter Larssen and his wife Michelle of Berlin, Carl Larssen and his girlfriend Tina Paskell of Berlin, Audrey Goodwin and her husband Patrick of Greenville, S.C., Katrina Gleason and her boyfriend Sean Murdock of Hudson, Heidi Shea and her husband Patrick of Hampton, Va., and Frederick Cummings and his wife Amy of Lancaster. He is also survived by two sisters, Barbara Johnson and her husband Arthur of Chelmsford and Sandra Cotton of Springhill, Fla.; three brothers, William Larssen of Springhill, Fla., Robert Larssen and his wife Barbara of Colbrook, N.H., and Lawrence Larssen and his wife Iris of Chelmsford; his 19 loving grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, June 5, at 11:00 a.m., in the First Parish Church, 24 Central St., Berlin. Burial will follow in North Cemetery of Berlin. Family and friends may attend calling hours Tuesday, June 4, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., at the Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home, 50 Central St., Hudson.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Richard may be made to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, 10 Brookline Place West, 6th Floor, Brookline, MA 02445.
