Shrewsbury large web iconShrewsbury – As part of its Summer Multicultural Festival, the Shrewsbury library will host a workshop, “Introduction to Middle Eastern Music and Dance,” Saturday, July 27, from 10:30-11:30 a.m., at the library, 609 Main St. Presented by Edward J. Hines, this participatory workshop is a fun and fascinating introduction to the cultures of the Middle East.?It features demonstrations of folk and classical instruments (strings, winds, and percussion) from Turkey and the Arab world.?Participants will learn about the unique modes and scales of the region (maqamat) and hear comparisons of Eastern and Western musical styles. The highlight of the workshop is learning easy Middle Eastern folk dances.?Sponsored by the Friends of the Library, the drop-in program is appropriate for the whole family.
