Shrewsbury – Mary T. (Hawes) Giofreda, 84, of Shrewsbury, passed away at her home Monday July 15, 2013, after an long illness, surrounded by her daughters, Marianne O”Brien, of North Carolina, and Susan Monoghan, of Shrewsbury; her sons, Gary and Brian Giofreda of Shrewsbury; and her niece, Sheryl O”Connor of Holden.
She leaves her adoring grandchildren, Anthony Andrews, Joshua Adams, Jenny Adams, Jillian Doan, Julie Clark, Alex O”Brien, and Gary Paul Giofreda Jr., and five loving great-grandchildren, Madison, Latta, Julius, Marcus, Maddox, and Quinn. She also leaves several nieces and nephews, as well as many old friends and some new ones whom will all miss her. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Ralph “Gary” Giofreda; her brothers, Kevin, Martin and Jack Hawes; and a sister, Frances Loconsolo.
Mary was born in Worcester, the daughter of the late George and Julia (Murphy) Hawes. She was educated in Worcester schools.
She was a longtime member of St. Anne's Parish. She enjoyed bingo and trips to Foxwoods, spending time with family and friends, and cheering for Boston Sports teams.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours Wednesday, July 17, from 4 to 7 p.m., in the Britton-Shrewsbury Funeral Home, 648 Main St. Her funeral will be held Thursday, July 18 from the funeral home, with a Mass at 12 p.m. in St. Anne's Church, 130 Turnpike Rd., Shrewsbury. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park.
