Westborough – The public is invited to join the Westborough Little League 10-year-old All-Stars for a Family Fun Day Sunday, July 21 from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Target Fields. The team of 12 players, with their families and coaches, will be hosting the event as a fundraiser for the Dana Farber Cancer Institute's Jimmy Fund.
Each year the team traditionally participates in a state-wide initiative to raise funds for the Jimmy Fund. The effort, their head coach Mike Stanton said, is a way to not only raise money for an important cause but also is a way to teach them about what seriously ill children must endure and how they can help those kids. The team will also be paying a visit to Dana Farber to learn more about how the money they raise is used to help sick kids.
The Westborough program has been the top fundraiser in the state for the past 10 years, according to Stanton.
“It's now kind of a legacy that we take great pride in,” he said.
Last year's team raised $28,000; this year's team is hoping to raise just as much.
Attendees at the Family Fun Day will be able to enjoy such things as a Dunk Tank, Home Run Contest, Jumpy House, Baseball Toss, Get the Golden Ticket, Candy Counting Contest and more. There will also be food, raffles and a silent auction.
“The community and local businesses have been so supportive,” Stanton said. “All monies raised that day will go towards the Jimmy Fund. It's going to be a great event.”
The rain date for the event is Monday, July 22, from 5 to 8 p.m. ?The Target Fields are located right behind the Target store, 330 Turnpike Rd., (Route 9).
The team is: Drew Stanton, Cam Erickson, Drew Lewis-Keddy, Nick Pascale, Kevin McCarthy, Matthew Ragan, Grant Pellechio, Patrick Kelley, Tyler Nagi, Brendan McCafferty, Cam Sullivan, and Luke Sullivan.
Stanton is assisted by Karl Erickson, Tim Keddy and Glen Pascale.
