Westborough – Gerald J. Merchant, 82, of Westborough, passed away peacefully Sunday, Aug. 25, 2013 at the Beaumont Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center. He was the husband of the late Patricia A. (Francesco) Merchant.

Born in Westborough, he was the son of the late Charles and Theresa (LeBeau) Merchant. He was educated in Westborough schools and was a 1949 graduate of Westborough High School.

Gerald was employed as a press operator for Bay State Abrasives for 47 years, retiring in 1993.

He was a communicant of St. Luke the Evangelist Church, where he helped with the weekly collection. He was a former member of WASA and enjoyed spending time at his home on the Cape and spending time with his family.

Gerald is survived by his three children, Bonnie J. Brodmerkle and her husband, Richard of Berlin, Jeffrey C. Merchant and his wife Debra, of Westborough, and Joseph D. Merchant of Westborough; one grandson, David Brodmerkle; three step-grandchildren, Jamie Lambert, Nicholas Lambert, and Jonathan Kreell; one great-grandson, Lucas Jason Lambert; and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Thomas, George, Donald, and Mary Merchant and Claire Mackinaw.

His funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, Aug. 29, at 10:30 a.m., in St. Luke the Evangelist Church, 70 West Main St., Westborough. Burial will follow in St. Luke's Cemetery. Calling hours at the Britton-Summers Funeral Home, 4 Church St., Westborough, are Wednesday, Aug. 28, from 5 to 7 p.m.
