Hudson – Elizabeth A. Maue passed away Thursday, Sept. 12, 2013. Betty, as she was known to friends and family, was born Nov. 26, 1931 in McGee's Mills, Pennsylvania to the late Clyde L. and Anna Lucille (Ferrier) McGee. She was the beloved wife of Ward F. Maue, with whom she would have celebrated 61 years of marriage Nov. 9.
Betty spent many years as an Army wife, supporting her husband and raising their family at military bases in the United States and Germany for nearly 20 years, prior to settling in Townsend, Mass. in 1971. She was a longtime resident of Townsend, later residing in Leominster, and, most recently, Hudson.
She worked to support the war effort as a welder of aircraft engines for General Electric during the Korean War, and was a Red Cross volunteer and instructor during the Vietnam Conflict. She enjoyed gardening, painting, and craft work, and for many years she sang with the choir of the Townsend United Methodist Church, where she had been a member for the past 42 years.
She is survived by her husband, Ward F. Maue; her daughters, Deborah MaueSprague and husband Glenn Sprague, Christine Derby, and Rebecca Jones and husband Frederick Jones Jr.; and four grandchildren, Erin and Jeffrey Derby, Michael Sprague, and Colleen Jones, all of Massachusetts. She is also survived by her sisters, Barbara McConnaughey and Dorothy Gardner of Pennsylvania; her brother, Jack McGee and his wife Mabel of California; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her beloved son-in-law, James Derby; her sister, Emma Tait; and her brothers Phillip, William, and Donald McGee.
Her family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff of Sudbury Pines Extended Care Center for their kindness, caring and special attention to her, and for their support of her family.
A memorial service and celebration of Elizabeth's life will be held at a later date in the United Methodist Church, 265 Main St., Townsend. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home, 50 Central St., Hudson.
