Shrewsbury – Students on the “Five Red” team at the Sherwood Middle School are participating in this year's 9th annual Scarecrow on the Common contest and display. The students, led by their teachers Lucy Marcigliano??and Victoria McCarthy, worked ?cooperatively in small groups to plan, organize materials, and assemble scarecrows as a team building activity during their team time.
The activity, the teachers said, ?provided an opportunity for students to practice the School's September core value, “Cooperation.”? One of the Five Red goals this year is to become active members of Shrewsbury community in a variety of ways.? Students chose to have the scarecrows depict famous people who have made an important contribution to their community and in many cases the world.? The scarecrow project for the Spirit of Shrewsbury was the class's kick-off activity for the year.
The contest is organized by the Shrewsbury Garden Club and will be on display until Friday, Oct. 18.
