Marlborough – Catherine A. “Betty” DeFazio, 97, passed away Thursday, Sept. 27, 2013 after a long period of failing health. She was the wife of the late Frank J. DeFazio, who died in 1987. She was born in West Newton, the daughter of the late Antonio and Maria (Gigliotti) Grandinetti, and lived in Marlborough for 32 years.
She is survived by one daughter, Rose Proia and her husband Pat of Newton; one daughter-in-law, Joyce DeFazio of Hudson; seven grandchildren, David Proia and his wife Sharon, Richard Proia and his wife Rosemary, Linda Calleva and her husband Christopher, Patricia Murray and her husband James, Catherine DeFazio, Diane Svendsen and her husband Ted, and Frank DeFazio and his wife Margaret; and 14 great-grandchildren, David Proia Jr. and his wife Jillian, Daniel and Nicole Proia, Christopher Calleva Jr., Alicia, Domenique and Louis Didino, Adam, Jacob and Michelle Leavitt, Anders and Jon Svendsen, and Nicole and Michael DeFazio. She was predeceased by a son, Michael J. DeFazio, and two great-grandchildren, Stephen Poia and baby Gerard Svendsen.
Her funeral was held Oct. 1 from the William R.? Short and Son Funeral Home (www.shortfuneral) of Marlborough, followed by a funeral mass at? St. Bernadette's Church of Northborough and burial in Saint Mary's Cemetery of Marlborough.
