Shrewsbury – Fall has just arrived but it's not too early to starting thinking and planning for the new year. For Shrewsbury residents there is now a new way to help organize all your plans – the 2014 Shrewsbury Rotary Club Calendar.
The calendar features 12 pictures from Shrewsbury's past, courtesy of the Shrewsbury Historical Society. Residents will delight in seeing photos of familiar places such as Ski Ward, the Sumner House and Lake Quinsigamond as they were in days past. Shrewsbury has always loved a parade, as evidenced by a photo from the Old Home Week Parade in 1907 that is also featured. And speaking of Lake Quinsigamond, there is also a photo from 1905 that shows elephants that were in town for a circus bathing in the lake.
Those who purchase the calendar will also be entered into twice-monthly drawings to win gift certificates to local businesses.
Judy Merriman, the club's membership chair, noted that 24 local businesses had purchased ads in the calendar. Many others had made either monetary donations or donated gift certificates for the monthly drawings.
The calendar may be purchased for $20 each at different locations throughout the town, including the Shrewsbury Historical Society, Central One Federal Credit Union, Shrewsbury Federal Credit Union, and United Bank. It will also be sold prior to Town Meeting Monday, Oct. 21.
Monies raised will be used to support many of the local projects the Rotary undertakes each year.
