Marlborough-large-web-icon1Marlborough – Mayor Arthur Vigeant and Ward 3 City Councilor Matt Elder will hold a Ward Park neighborhood meeting to finalize park renovation and rehabilitation plans Thursday, Dec. 12, at 6 p.m. in Memorial Hall at Marlborough City Hall, 140 Main St.

According to a press release from the mayor's office, this meeting will focus solely on the Ward Park renovations as the design and layout of the senior center are final. Site work on the senior center portion is expected to begin this month.

The Marlborough City Council overwhelmingly approved the bond requests for both the Senior Center and Ward Park revitalization plans at its Nov. 4 meeting despite opposition expressed by some of the immediate abutters to the park. At that meeting, a $6.5 million bond was approved to construct the new center and a $3 million bond was approved for the Ward Park enhancements. “There is still time for constructive and meaningful conversations with the neighbors on how we can make this a better project,” Vigeant said in the release. “While the time for debate is over, I's hopeful we can bring some people to the table and continue moving forward.”

“Now that the project is moving forward, we all share a responsibility to put aside our differences and work together,” Elder said in the release. “The neighborhood has a legitimate opportunity to positively influence this project and I hope they take advantage of it.”

“While the money has been approved and we have a master plan in place, the mayor, myself, and various department heads want to continue to meet with the neighbors about any changes to the master plan to ensure the improvements done to Ward Park are the best we can do,” he added.
