Northborough's Toomey recognized for 45 years of service

Northborough large web iconNorthborough – The Northborough Police Department is recognizing its Communications Supervisor Bill Toomey, who recently celebrated his 45th anniversary with the department.

“Forty-five years is an amazing accomplishment,” Police Chief Mark K. Leahy told the Board of Selectmen at the board's Dec. 2 meeting. The board praised Toomey, citing him for “dedication [he] has shown to the people of Northborough.”

Toomey is not retiring, but Leahy said it was important to recognize his service.

“I thought it was an exceptional day,” Leahy said, referring to Dec. 1, the date of Toomey's anniversary.

Several selectmen said they remembered Toomey as an up-and-comer who started working for the police department as a young man.

Selectman Chair Leslie Rutan said it was “almost unheard of these days” for a person to stay with an organization for so long.
