Obit Flag_USE THIS ONEHudson – Arthur P. Phaneuf Sr., 91, a lifelong resident of Hudson, died Monday, Dec. 30, 2013 at Sudbury Pines Extended Care Facility in Sudbury. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Marion E. (Carter) Phaneuf of Hudson.
Arthur was born and raised in Hudson, son of the late Arthur and Marceline (Pelitier) Phaneuf. He attended local schools and later served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Nields as a veteran of World War II. He was a gunner's mate on the ship and also served as the ship's barber, a profession he truly loved for the majority of his life.

Following his honorable discharge from the Navy, he owned and operated Phaneuf's Barber Shop on Main Street in Hudson for 60-plus years.
Arthur enjoyed painting in his spare time, specializing in water color painting, and would display many of his works at his shop. As a hobby, he enjoyed purchasing and selling antiques at local flea markets.

Arthur touched many lives throughout his life, but most of all enjoyed being with the family, especially spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was truly loved by all and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his children, Arthur P. Phaneuf Jr. and his wife, Sigrid, of New Hampshire, David Phaneuf and his wife, Diane, of Marlborough, Neil Phaneuf and his wife, Nancy, of Hudson, and Mary Dilling and her husband, Ernie, of Hudson. He was predeceased by his son, Paul Phaneuf, in 1991. He is also survived by his brother, Neil Phaneuf of Acton; his sister, Shirley Geary of Marlborough; his six grandchildren, Mikko, Crystal, Jessica and Joel Phaneuf, Abbe Sousa, and Craig Collins; his eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Eugene Phaneuf.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, Jan. 6, at 9:00 a.m., in Saint Michael's Church, 21 Manning St., Hudson. Burial will follow in Forestvale Cemetery of Hudson. Family and friends may attend calling hours Sunday, Jan. 5, from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m., at the Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home, 50 Central St., Hudson.
