Region – The Starhawks Youth Hockey program has had a successful season culminating with two of its teams winning a championship and three others coming very close.
The PeeWee 1, PeeWee 2, PeeWee 3, Squirt 3 and Mite 1 teams all traveled to Groton School and Lawrence Academy to play in the Tourney in the Woods.? The PeeWee 1 team went 2-0-1 in divisional play and in the finals won the title game with an impressive 4-2 win.
The PeeWee 2 team had a record of 3-0 in their divisional play but lost in a double overtime game, 2-1.? The Mite 1 team went 2-0-1 and lost a very close championship game, 3-2.
The Squirt 1 and Squirt 2 teams traveled to Martha's Vineyard to play in the Ryan Mone Memorial Tournament.? The Squirt 1s won the championship with a 7-6 victory against?? Nantucket team.? The Squirt 2s also made it to the championship round but lost in sudden death overtime.
Additionally Cooper Lacina, who plays on the Mite 1 team, was selected by the Worcester Sharks as the “Sharks Youth Hockey Player of the Month” for December. As such, Cooper was given the VIP treatment before a recent game. “Finz,” the Sharks mascot, escorted him around the locker room and onto the ice where he participated in the pre-game ceremonies. His name was also announced and put on the jumbotron.
