Westborough – The Westborough School Committee has announced that it has chosen three finalists in the search to replace Marianne O”Connor as the superintendent of the Westborough Public Schools. O”Connor announced in December that she will be retiring at the end of the current school year.
The three finalists are: Amber Bock, assistant superintendent of curriculum and instruction for the Weston Public Schools; Jean Fitzgerald, superintendent of the Watertown Public Schools; and Michael Welch, principal of Framingham High School.
According to the School Committee, 39 educators from Massachusetts and across the country applied for the position. A Selection Committee, comprised of school administrators, teachers, School Committee members and a parent representative, interviewed the most highly qualified applicants and nominated the finalists.
The School Committee will be performing site visits at each of the finalists” districts by the end of February. In March each finalist will spend part of a day in the Westborough schools. There will be time during these visits for the finalists to meet with staff and members of the community. ?Those dates will be announced when they are finalized.
The School Committee will conduct public interviews of the finalists during its Wednesday, March 26 meeting. The public will also be given the opportunity to ask questions and provide comments.? After the interviews, committee members expect to discuss the candidates and hold a vote to fill the position.? The new superintendent will start in July.
