To the Editor:
I would like to extend my thanks and gratitude to everyone that contributed to the great success of the first annual Matt Bruce Ice Fishing Derby held Feb. 15 at Lake Chauncy in Westborough. This event was nothing short of spectacular and it was an uplifting experience for everyone that participated. Even though the temperature was a brisk 29 degrees, it did not stop participants for coming out for a great cause. The event encompassed many prize fish caught, a hearty lunch, raffle prizes, many laughs for everyone and even a little snow toward the end of the day.
Local area businesses came together to support Matt and donated raffle prizes, including restaurant gift cards, hotel room stays, and even Bruins tickets. We gathered after the event at the Westboro House of Pizza to raffle off the prizes thanks to owner and close friend Fred Economou.
Very special thanks to our local area business sponsors: Northborough's A.J. Tomaiolo's Restaurant, Golfsmith, Bacon's Wine & Spirits, LaLa Java, B.J.'s Wholesale Club, Louie's Trendsetters Barber Shop, Blue Water Landscaping, Lowe's Market and Variety (lunch sponsor), Nicholas Michaels Spa, Central One Federal Credit Union, Romaine's Wood Grill & Bar, Starbuck's Coffee, Dick's Sporting Goods, Steakloft, Eastern Mountain Sports, European Auto, Festive Breads Bakery, Guiseppe's Grille, and Yoga Plus; Westborough's Arturo's Ristorante, Boston Sports Club, Central House Tavern, Tatnuck Bookseller, Westboro House of Pizza (lunch sponsor), Coco-Cola Company, and Willows of Westborough; and Lane Hotel of Keene, N.H.; Blue Coast Coffee of Shrewsbury; Quality Beverage of Auburn; Cafco Construction of Boston; Renaissance Boston Patriot Place Hotel & Spa, and Residence Inn by Marriot Boston Needham.
I would also like to thank Matt Bruce. Matt, you “never give up” and your attitude is always so positive. You are a fighter and YOU are the reason we all keep fighting with you.
“It takes a village” and the towns of Northborough and Westborough are unspeakably the strongest villages that I have ever witnessed. The “boroughs” truly exemplify what a sense of community stands for.
I greatly appreciate all of your kind efforts.
