Shrewsbury – Throughout the month of January, Central One Federal Credit Union gave away “free money” at its five main ATM locations in Auburn, Shrewsbury, Northborough and Westborough.

One hundred $50 “bill slips” were inserted into various ATM locations instead of the usual $20 bills. In some cases, when a person made a withdrawal, instead of receiving the expected $20, they received a $50 bill slip. They were then instructed to bring the slip into the local branch to redeem their free money.

“It was a complete surprise,” said winner Louis Sparanges. “It made my day.”

“I was shocked, it was a really nice surprise to leave with some extra cash,” winner Nick MacDonald remarked.

The promotion was offered to everyone who made withdrawals, customers and non-customers alike, as a way for Central One to give back to the community.

“We had a nonmember with a young child come in, she was so excited, she actually gave me a hug!” stated Shrewsbury Head Teller Angela Desimone.
