Obit A. Sidney BrighamMarlborough – A. Sidney Brigham, 82, of Marlborough, died Friday, Feb. 28, 2014 at Marlborough Hospital. Born and raised in Marlborough, he was the son of the late Algernon R. and Bertha (Godien) Brigham and the husband of Suzanne J. (Tebo) Brigham.

A graduate of Marlborough High School, class of 1949, he served for over 20 years in the National Guard. While employed at the former Bay State Abrasives in Westborough, Sid continued his education and graduated from the School of Management at Worcester Polytechnic Institute. Following a long career, he retired from Bay State as a production foreman.

An avid skier, he had been a member of the Jericho Ski Club and WOTS (Wachusett Old Timer's Ski Club), where he still held his season pass, skiing regularly.

Proud of his heritage as a ninth generation member of the Marlborough Brigham family, Sid had a great interest and knowledge of the city's history and served on the Historical Commission. He was a founding member of the Marlborough Historical Society and active in the Old House Association.

He loved a challenge. His abilities as a craftsman were unparalleled and his advice was sought by everyone who knew him. No matter the problem, Sid knew how to make it work. He was always willing to share his knowledge, whether it was on gardening or antiques or a simple repair. He had a special talent for creating and crafting miniatures furniture.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his son, Bradley Brigham and his wife Diane of Etiwanda, Cal.; his daughter, Sally Mueller and her husband Timothy of West Bend, Wis.; his grandchildren, Brooke Brigham, Caroline Bohler and her husband Aaron, Johanna Mueller, and Peter Mueller; and his sister, Rosaline Rueger of Marlborough. He was also the brother of the late Robert and Richard Brigham, Jacqueline Bush, and Priscilla McGilvray.

Visiting hours will be held Tuesday, March 4, from 4 – 7 p.m., at the Slattery Funeral Home, 40 Pleasant St., Marlborough. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, March 5, at 11 a.m., at St. Matthias Church, 409 Hemenway St., Marlborough. Burial will be held at a later date at Rocklawn Cemetery of Marlborough.
