Westborough's uncontested elections fail to draw voters

    Westborough large web iconWestborough – Only 5 percent, or 493 out of 10,692 voters, came out to vote in Westborough's annual town election March 4. All 13 candidates for town positions ran uncontested.

    With 439 votes, John E. Arnold replaces retired Town Moderator Joseph Harrington for a three-year term.

    Wendy L. Mickel, who has been serving as interim town clerk, will take over the post for a three-year term, after longtime clerk Nancy Yendriga retired, with a total of 441 votes.

    Ian P. Johnson was re-elected as selectman for a three-year term with 425 votes. Also re-elected were Josephine S. Hensley and Ilyse Levine-Kanji for three-year terms on the School Committee, with 372 and 327 votes, respectively. New candidate George M. Thompson, with 406 votes, will hold a two-year term on the School Committee.

    On the Planning Board, Mark D. Silverberg was elected to a five-year term (387 votes), Edward J. Newton Jr. (370 votes) to a two-year term, and Charles Diamond to a four-year term (63 votes).

    Two candidates, Patricia Fontes and Dorothy Mello, were re-elected to three-year terms as trustees of the Westborough Public Library, garnering 406 and 405 votes, respectively. Michelle S. Grandin was also elected to a three-year term with 91 votes. And Priscilla Federici, with 389 votes, was re-elected to the Westborough Housing Authority for a term of five years.
