Marlborough – The good weather is always a time to celebrate.? On April 8, 1871, the thermometer reached 80 degrees in the shade.? April 30, 1853 Marlborough had June-like weather and some peach trees were in blossom.
Spring always brings new life and growth. ?It's a time to plan and feel confident in the future.
April 3, 1860, the Marlborough Savings Bank incorporated. April 12, 1877, the Marlborough Times was established with C.F. Morse as editor and Richard A. Bigelow, as publisher. April? 27, 1866, two new meeting houses opened in town for public worship. The Marlborough Branch R.R. Company, from Marlboro to Feltonville incorporated? ?The community was coming into its own and becoming a good place to raise a family.
In April 1964, at the behest of Mayor Kuson Haddad, the Marlborough Historical Society was established.
Just as our ancestors planned and celebrated so does the Marlborough Historical Society.? The Society will be celebrating its 50th Anniversary at the Peter Rice Homestead (the society's home), 377 Elm St, Tuesday, April 22 at 7 p.m. with a “60s Trivia Night.? The evening is open to everyone.
Also, celebrating its 50th anniversary this year is the Marlborough Junior Woman's Club. Together, the Marlborough Historical Society and the Marlborough Junior Woman's Club will celebrate in June with a Strawberry Festival at the Peter Rice Homestead.
