Obit Joan McKenzieMarlborough – Joan K. (Tobin) McKenzie, 82, of Marlborough, died Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at Marlborough Hospital after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Maurice “Ace” McKenzie, who died in 1995.

She was born and raised in Marlborough, the daughter of the late John J. and Catherine F. (Burke) Tobin, and was a graduate of Marlborough High School, class of 1948.

After high school, Joan worked at Mutual Shoe as a stitcher. She was a book binder at RR Donnelly & Sons Co. in Hudson for many years retiring several years ago. Following retirement, she worked part time at Price Chopper.

She was a former member of the Immaculate Conception Church and she enjoyed playing bingo, doing crosswords, and reading. She was fun loving and quite a jokester, and always the optimist. She adored her grandchildren and they brought so much happiness to her life.

She leaves a son, Philip M. McKenzie of Wayland; five daughters, Suzanne J. Skelly of Marlborough, Linda J. McKenzie of Leominster, Marcia G. Lopez of Marlborough, with whom she lived, Donna M. Johnson and her husband John of Hudson, and Patricia A. McKenzie of Leominster; eleven grandchildren, Shaun, Ian, Vicky, Vanessa, Jason, Sara, Angie, Amanda, John, Sarah, and Ashley; 13 great-grandchildren; and many nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by five brothers, John “Jimmy,” George, Richard, Thomas, and William, and a sister, Patricia.

A funeral service will be held Monday, April 21, at 11 a.m., in the Fitzgerald & Collins Funeral Home, 378 Lincoln St., Marlborough. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Wilson Street. Calling hours will be held Sunday, April 20, from 6 – 8 p.m., in the funeral home.
