Obit Andrew McCarthyNorthborough – Andrew McCarthy, 98, a longtime resident of Northborough, died Sunday, May 4, 2014 after a short period of declining health. He was predeceased by his wife of 56 years, Mary A. (McDonough) McCarthy, who died in 2011. He is predeceased by a brother, Michael McCarthy and two sisters, Hannah Burke and Margaret Martin.

Born on January 2, 1916 in Kilcummin, Ireland, Diocese of Kerry, the son of William McCarthy and Mary (Finnegan) McCarthy, Andrew arrived in New York in 1948 and received his naturalization papers in June 1954. He moved to Northborough in April 1967 and resided there until 2005.

Andrew worked as a cook at Cushing Hospital in Framingham. He had many dear friends from his parish at St. Rose of Lima in Northborough.

In Andrew's later years, he and his wife were blessed with the special friendship of Patricia Sweet of Shrewsbury. Patricia's relentless advocacy, selflessness and unconditional compassion were a constant comfort.

There are no calling hours. The funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, May 9, at 10 a.m., at St. Rose of Lima Church, 244 West Main St., Northborough. Burial will follow in Howard Street Cemetery. Hays Funeral Home of Northborough is directing arrangements.
