To the Editor:
My husband and I strongly support an override to Prop. 2- 1/2 and an increase to property taxes to protect this lovely town of ours.? We are a single-income family who believe that education and public safety are a priority and are worth our investment.
We have by far the lowest tax rates of any surrounding town, yet the average household income in Shrewsbury is comparable, or in many cases, higher than that of the surrounding towns.
Costs are rising more than 2.5% a year, so it is logical to expect that until our revenues increase proportionally, town services will continue to be reduced, including the elimination of more teachers. This increase is long overdue and really not optional if we want to maintain the reputation of our town.? If we do not support this now, our town will be at risk.
The increase is taxes in an opportunity to invest in our property values.? I urge all Shrewsbury residents to make the responsible choice of voting yes on June 3.
