Shrewsbury – A popular tradition from the past – the Lake Quinsigamond Boat Parade – has been revived. The event, sponsored by the Lake Quinsigamond Watershed Association (LQWA) will be held Saturday, Aug. 30, starting at the Donahue Rowing Center at 2 p.m.
Motor boat enthusiasts are invited to decorate their boats using the event's theme, “Favorite Movie.” A panel of local officials will then judge the parade and award prizes to the top three.
There is no charge to participate – boaters may sign up at lakequinsig.eventbrite.com.
Barbara Kickham Sahagian, a LQWA board member, explained that the parade had actually been a popular tradition for many years but then had stopped about 12 years ago. It was then revived in 2012 but took a year's hiatus due the Burns Bridge replacement project. Fifteen boats participated in 2012 with hundreds more lining the shores of the lake to cheer on the entrants.
Sponsors for this year's event include Doug Russell Marine, Shore Side Docks and Madulka's Ice Cream.
There is no charge to participate – boaters may sign up at lakequinsig.eventbrite.com.? All participants must adhere to the lake's rules and regulations and a life vest must be provided for each person who will be on the boat. Entrants are asked to gather at 1:30 p.m. near the Donahue Rowing Center, at the north end of the lake.
