Shrewsbury – Shrewsbury resident Justin Vlass, a rising senior at St. John's High School, completed the two-week Norwich University Future Leadership Camp at the national first senior military camp in Northfield, Vt., July 12. The camp is designed to develop the leadership skills of high school students by providing a challenging and meaningful adventure camp experience. Participants came from 17 states and overseas.

Physical fitness training was part of the camp, as well as paintball, rappelling, wall climbing, first aid training, water survival skills, crisis preparedness, orienteering and leadership classes. Participants rappelled 80-foot cliffs in Killington, Vt., and went on a three-day overnight camping trip.

To qualify for the camp, students must have a minimum GPA of 2.5 and demonstrate involvement in leadership-driven organizations outside the classroom.
