He was the cherished husband of Barbara A. (Ranieri) Etre. They had celebrated their 50th anniversary in June. He was the devoted father of Kelliann McCabe and her husband Scott of Marlborough, Suzanne Etre and her significant other Angelos Sourpis of Cambridge, and Neal Etre and his wife Kendra Kinscherf of S. Boston, and the proud Papa of Anna, Connor, and Halle McCabe. He is also survived by his loving sister, Phyllis Leonard and her husband Paul of Worcester; his brother-in-law, Alfred Ranieri and his wife Judith of Branford, Conn.; and his nieces, nephews, cousins , friends, and wonderful neighbors.
Born in Worcester, he was the son of the late Thomas A. Etre Sr. and Clementine (Riccardi) Etre. He graduated from Worcester Academy, Boston University and earned his Master's degree from Framingham State University.
His passion for teaching was evident throughout his 27 years as an elementary teacher at the Franklin School in Newton. During this time, he received a sabbatical to work on the development of Project Aries for Harvard University. Upon his retirement in 1997, he taught at the Jewish Community School in Watertown until 2007.
Tom also had a love for working with his hands and always had a project in progress. He enjoyed many friendships, traveling with neighbors, and lived each day to the fullest. His greatest joy came from watching his grandchildren at their sporting events and bragging about them afterwards.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, Sept. 16, at 11 a.m., at the Immaculate Conception Church, 11 Prospect St., Marlborough. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Wilson Street, Marlborough.
