Shrewsbury – The following events listed below are the core events sponsored by Spirit of Shrewsbury Committee. For more information, visit www.spiritofshrewsbury.org. Volunteers are always welcome and this is a great way to get community service hours for teens.

Craft Fair:

Location: Oak Middle School, 45 Oak St. (inside and outside)

Over 70 vendors from all over Massachusetts will be showcasing their one-of-a-kind, homemade items in the annual craft fair. This is a great opportunity to beat the holiday rush and find unique, personal gifts for those special people in your life. Some of the featured items for sale this year will include: children’s items including blankets, stuffed toys, cloth books and baby clothes; home accessories including decorative wood cut-outs, stained glass products, sun catchers, ceramics, glass and wine bottle lights, floral arrangements and lanterns; personal items including jewelry, purses, tote bags and knitted goods; and holiday items including Halloween accessories, Christmas ornaments and greeting cards. Come and meet the talented vendors to learn the inspiration behind their crafts and the ways that they create them.

Town Expo:

With over 120 exhibitors and thousands of visitors, the Spirit of Shrewsbury Fall Festival Town Expo gives exhibitors a venue to display a wide variety of products, raffles and giveaways. Many will offer free children’s crafts and exciting activities. Favorites always include robot demonstrations, sales of kitchen tools, candles, cosmetics, educational children’s toys and books, merchandise, home services, jewelry, dancing, cheerleading, martial arts and gymnastics demonstrations, nonprofits and music. Children will also enjoy the inflatable moonwalks.

The expo will feature many food vendors. Under the dining tent, people may enjoy a wide variety of food such as ethnic dishes, clam chowder, hot dogs, hamburgers, sandwiches, chili, beef teriyaki, chicken kabobs, sausage sandwiches and more. Cotton candy, ice cream and popcorn will delight the visitors.

Parade:

Location: Route – Beal School to Maple Ave. to Oak Middle School, 45 Oak Street

Date/Time: Sunday, Sept. 28; 1 p.m.

Parade watchers will view creative floats, artistic dancers and clowns, and hear the sounds of cheering from scouts and school groups, the revving of motorcycles, horns of antique cars, and the sirens of fire engines. Children will go wild picking up candy on the sidewalk and putting their stash in their grocery bag. The streets will close at 12:55 p.m.

Parade commentators, Maria Smith and Nick Todisco will be airing from the Town Hall, accompanied by SPAC and the over 90-year-old Shrewsbury residents.

Leading the parade will be the grand marshal and police motorcycles, accompanied by the Board of Selectmen, state dignitaries, police and fire departments, SELCO and military vehicles. Shrewsbury High School (SHS) Marching Band, clubs, sports teams and classes will continue the procession.

Over-90 Tribute Tea:

Refreshments, certificates and entertainment will await the distinguished citizens. There will be surprise gifts for the oldest man and woman in attendance, and special recognition for the longest married couple. Entertainment has been a highlight of the afternoon tea. Attendees have enjoyed watching the Silver Moon Gypsy dancers, a speaker who presented the history of tea, and performances by the Shrewsbury High School Chorus. This year’s entertainment is a surprise!
