Westborough – It’s always fun for the students at the Annie E. Fales Elementary School when they hold their monthly assembly. But on Sept. 19, they had an extra special reason to celebrate. They finally got to see a new mural that they had contributed design ideas to several months ago.

The mural was created by local artist Virginia Orlando who was on hand for the unveiling.

Several months ago students were asked to submit ideas to Orlando on what they would like to see on a mural. She then reviewed the submissions and came up with the idea of a mural featuring a hedgehodge named “Annie”.

The finished mural, which is 11’ x 8’ and done in acrylics, also incorporates several other charming animals. It will hang in the school’s cafeteria so the children may enjoy it each day.

The project was funded by a $700 grant from the Westborough Cultural Council. Cliff Watts, the president of the council was in attendance at the unveiling, along with his wife, Lynne.

Orlando said she was thrilled with the positive response of the children who cheered loudly for several minutes when the mural was unveiled.

“They are so sweet,” she smiled. “It makes me so happy to see them so happy with it.”
