Shrewsbury – Shrewsbury Montessori School (SMS) announced that it has been granted initial accreditation by the Association of Independent Schools in New England (AISNE). The AISNE Board of Directors voted to grant the accreditation based on the School’s Self-Study document and an evaluation report prepared by a team of educators who conducted their visit to the school in May 2014.
The AISNE accreditation process began with a thorough Self-Study generated by the school, and culminated with a multi-day site visit conducted by a team of teachers and administrators from peer schools. The site visit involved observations and conversations with administrators, staff, faculty, parents, students, and board members, and included a thorough examination of all areas of a school’s operations including program, staffing, admission, communications, governance, financial management, development, facilities, and health and safety. The team presented its findings and recommendations in a report to the school this August.
“The preparation of the Self-Study involved every member of our staff. We are pleased and proud to share this achievement with the greater community,” noted Head of School, Margie Smetana.
Shrewsbury Montessori School seeks to engage students in all aspects of their learning, guiding students to identify what they know, examine what they seek to know, and develop a path to increase their understanding through individual as well as collaborative research, lessons, exploration and discovery.
SMS students have the freedom to work at their own pace, within the structure of a timeline. SMS students have the expectation and responsibility to work to the best of their ability in building an academic and social foundation in preparation for their place in today’s global society.
The AISNE accreditation program is recognized and approved by the National Association of Independent Schools through its Commission on Accreditation. In order to achieve and maintain AISNE accreditation, schools must engage in ongoing school improvement to enhance student learning and growth.
