Marlborough – Board members of the Friends of the Marlborough Senior Center extend an invitation to all to attend a Boot Scootin’ Barbecue Saturday, Oct. 18, at the Masonic Hall. A buffet featuring barbecued ribs, marinated chicken, corn bread, apple pie, and more will be served. DJ George will provide a variety of live music for line dancing, singing or just plain listening that will set the tone for an evening of good old western fun.

A special feature of the evening will be dance instruction for those who would like to brush up on their country line dancing. There will also be a variety of raffles and a cash bar. Tickets are $18 and can be purchased at the Senior Center, 240 Main St., or at the door that evening. Proceeds from the event will be used to buy furnishings for the new Senior Center under construction at Ward Park.

The estimated completion date for the new center is Dec. 17 and, according to John Ghiloni, Department of Public Works commissioner, the project is right on schedule.

“I am very pleased with the progress being made by the contractors and we expect the building to be completed before the end of the year,” he said.

A formal groundbreaking was held at Ward Park in November. Council on Aging Director Jennifer Claro and Board Chair Jim Confrey extended their appreciation to Mayor Arthur Vigeant and the City Council for their perseverance in seeing the project through to the construction phase.

In a recent edition of the Senior Center Newsletter, Confrey said, “I am excited to say the Senior Center is coming along beautifully and on schedule. Please try to stop down at the site and see it. This is truly an exciting time and we have a building we can be proud to call our new home.”
