Shrewsbury – Ronald S. Davis, 93, of South Quinsigamond Avenue, retired president of the Davis Corporation of Worcester, died Friday, Sept. 26, 2014 at Whitney Place Assisted Living in Northborough. His wife of 50 years, Marguerite “Peggy” R. Davis, died in 2000 and his friend, Jane Bryant Matthews, died in 2005.
He leaves his daughter, Elaine D. Reid of Shrewsbury; a son, Mark W. Davis of Waterbury Center, Vermont; and two grandchildren, Abigail D. and W. Curtis Reid. He was predeceased by his brother, Gilbert S. Davis.
Mr. Davis was born in Worcester, son of Warren G. and Anna (Sears) Davis. He was a resident of Shrewsbury since 1952. He graduated from Deerfield Academy and Yale University, class of 1944.
In World War II, he was awarded a Bronze Star medal as an Artillery Forward Observer with the 104th Infantry Division in Germany.
He joined Davis Press in 1946 and was elected president in 1961. He also had been president of Davis Advertising and Davis Publications, retiring in 1997. He had been a Trustee of the Printers Building Trust, Quinsigamond Shores Condominium Trust, and the former Consumer Savings Bank in Worcester.
Mr. Davis was a past chairman of the Shrewsbury Personnel Board and a Town Meeting Member. He was a past president of the Worcester County Club of Printing House Craftsmen and Secretary-Treasurer of the Yale Club of Worcester.
He was a hospice volunteer for the Visiting Nurses Association of Worcester, a volunteer at the Worcester County Food Bank, a director of the Worcester Area Advertising Club, Committee on Business Information, Young Businessmen’s Association, Worcester County Power Squadron, Family Services Organization, Harbor Coves Improvement Association in Chatham and Early Years and Supervisor Nurse Magazines. He was a member of the American Anitquarian Society, the 104th Infantry Division Association, and earlier of Kiwanis and various United Way and Chamber of Commerce committees and the Quabbin Social Club.
His family wishes to thank the Whitney Place Assistant living staff and directors as well as the Salmon VNA Hospice Services, Beaumont Skilled Nursing Facilities in Worcester and Northborough, and Carol Seager Associates staff for the care the demonstrated to him in his failing years.
A graveside service will be held later at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours.
