Obit Doris DeProspoSutton – Doris E. (Perron) DeProspo, formerly of Shrewsbury, died on Wednesday, October 15, 2014 at Rose Monahan Hospice Home in Worcester surrounded by her family. She was 83.

Born Aug. 31, 1931 in Spencer, Doris was the daughter of the late Wallace and Statia (Urban) Perron and a graduate of David Prouty High School. Shealso earned a teaching certificate from Fitchburg State College. She married Anthony L. “Tony” DeProspo May 10, 1958 in Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, Spencer, and was a resident of Shrewsbury for over 50 years before moving to Sutton in 2013.

Doris worked for many years at Worcester Polytechnic Institute as an administrative assistant in various departments, working well into her 70s. She was also an accomplished seamstress and her hand-made quilts and hooked rugs were the stuff of legend. For years, she taught quilting, sewing and rug hooking in adult education programs in Worcester, Northbridge and Marlborough. She served as the first president of the Association of Traditional Hooking Artists.

Above all, Doris adored her family. She was happiest when surrounded by her children and grandchildren.

Life is not forever. Love is. In addition to Tony, her husband of 56 years, Doris leaves her three children, Susan M. Pratt and her husband Steven of Sutton, Sandra J. Hebert and her husband Steven of Lexington, South Carolina, and Anthony L. “Chip” DeProspo Jr. and his wife Angela of Wellesley Hills; five grandchildren, Christian and Nicholas Pratt, Amanda Caldwell, Caitlin Burner, and Mia DeProspo; three great-grandchildren, Evelyn, Lucy, and Charlotte; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Jane, and a brother, Donald.

Family and friends will honor and remember Doris’ life by gathering for calling hours Friday, Oct. 17, from 5-8 p.m., at Heald & Chiampa Funeral Directors ~ The Sumner House, 5 Church Road, On the Common, Shrewsbury Center, and again at 9 a.m. on Saturday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Mary’s Church, 640 Main St., Shrewsbury, where her funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery.
