Obit Arlene M. MenendezShrewsbury – Arlene M. (O’Connell) Menendez, 88, longtime Shrewsbury resident, died peacefully Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2014 in St. Vincent Hospital after an illness.

She leaves her two sons, Joseph D. Menendez and his wife Paula of West Boylston and Roy E. Menendez and his wife Melissa of Worcester, and three adored granddaughters, Lisa, Sara, and Katie Menendez.

Arlene was born in Orange, New Jersey, daughter of the late Daniel and Ruby (Bates) O’Connell. She was a resident of Shrewsbury for most of her life and worked for over 30 years for Spag’s and later with Building 19 until she retired in 2013.

Most of Arlene’s special moments in life were spent around her family. She enjoyed getting outdoors for the fresh air and spending time in her gardens. She also dabbled with crossword puzzles, sewing, and crocheting in her younger years.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Arlene’s family Friday, Oct. 24, from 5-8 p.m., in the Britton-Shrewsbury Funeral Home, 648 Main St., Shrewsbury. Her funeral will be Saturday, Oct. 25, at 9 a.m., from the funeral home, with a funeral Mass celebrated at 10 a.m. in Saint Anne’s Church, 130 Boston Tpke., Shrewsbury. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery.
