Palm Coast, Fla. – Herculano D. Rego , 78, of Palm Coast, Fla., died Thursday, Oct. 30, 2014 at the Great Oaks Nursing Center in Palm Coast. He was a longtime resident of Hudson, and had spent the past 10 years in Florida.

Herculano was born in Santa Maria, the Azores of Portugal, son of the late Antonio T. and Angelina D. (Chaves) Rego. He immigrated to Hudson from Portugal in 1966 and was employed by the Deptartment of Public Works for many years until his retirement. He was a longtime member of Saint Michael’s Parish in Hudson and member of the Hudson Portuguese Club.

Herculano enjoyed camping and ocean fishing in his spare time. He always looked forward to spending time with his family and made many summer trips to Hudson while he resided in Florida. He was a devoted father and loving grandfather, and will be truly missed.

He is survived by his six children, Eddie Rego of Hudson, Ilda Johnston of Worcester, Joe Rego and his wife Laura of Berlin, Tony Rego of Hudson, James Rego of Hudson, and Lidia Jones and her husband Matthew Northborough, and his former wife and mother of his children, Maria N. (Andrade) Rego of Hudson. He is also survived by his eight loving grandchildren, Karolyn, Krystle, Emily, Jared, Josh, Cole, Jack, and Samantha, and his great-granddaughter, Olivia. He was the brother of the late Armando and David Rego and Celestina Correira.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, Nov. 6, at 9 a.m., in Saint Michael’s Church, 21 Manning St., Hudson. Burial will follow in Forestvale Cemetery, Hudson. Family and friends may attend calling hours Wednesday, Nov. 5, from 5-8 p.m., at the Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home, 50 Central St., Hudson.
