Hudson – Margaret E. (Coleman) Garrity , 94, of Hudson, died Friday, Oct. 31, 2014, surrounded by her loving family, at Marlborough Hospital. She was the beloved wife of 60 years to the late Edward T. Garrity, who died in 2006.
Margaret was born and raised in Hudson, daughter of the late M. James and Mary T. (McCarthy) Coleman. She was a lifelong resident of Hudson where she attended local schools and was a graduate of Saint Michael’s Academy.
She was employed for many years by the Town of Hudson in the accounting department until her retirement. She also worked for Lapointe’s Machine Shop and Harrity Envelope Co., both of Hudson, prior to working for the town. She was a member of Saint Michael’s Parish in Hudson.
Margaret enjoyed reading in her spare time and also loved knitting. Her grandchildren always cherished receiving the mittens she would knit for them. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially with her grandchildren later. She will be greatly missed by all.
She is survived by her children, Thomas E. Garrity and his wife Maureen of Gilmanton, N.H.; James M. Garrity and his wife Nancy of Hudson; William P. Garrity and his wife Lynne of Hudson; Patricia Morel and her husband Michael of Hudson; and Maureen Sappett of Clinton. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her two grandsons, Michael Morel, who died in 2000, and Jace Ryan Gaw, who died in 2011. She was the sister of the late Robert Coleman and Grace Buianowski.
A funeral mass will be celebrated Tuesday, Nov. 4, at 9 a.m., in Saint Michael’s Church, 21 Manning St., Hudson. Burial will follow in Saint Michael’s Cemetery, Hudson. Family and friends may attend calling hours Monday, Nov. 3, from 5-8 p.m., at the Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home, 50 Central St., Hudson.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Margaret may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Massachusetts/New Hampshire Chapter, 480 Pleasant St., Watertown, MA 02472.
