Marlborough- For the pasts several weeks, Our Father’s Table, an organization of volunteers from 18 churches throughout the Marlborough area, had ceased operating while searching for a new location to provide the healthy dinners and conversation they have provided for the past several years.
On Nov. 3, it reopened at the New Hope Church at 204 Main St. Area people who are having financial difficulties and need an occasional helping hand enjoy the sociability and hearty meals that vary from baked chicken, mac ’n’ cheese, pot roast or turkey.
Most guests learn of the dinner through church bulletins or word of mouth. Several from senior housing on Main Street in Marlborough attend as well as residents of Roland’s House, the Marlborough-Hudson shelter.
Vicki Killeen of St. Bernadette’s Church in Northborough, president of the group, emphasized that program volunteers do more than just serve food.
“We listen to their personal problems if they wish and make sure they are well-fed,” Killeen said.
They serve as many as 80 people a night, especially during the cold weather.
Our Father’s Table is completely funded through donations of money and food. Any individuals or groups that would like to volunteer may contact Vice President Mary Ellen Duggan at [email protected]. Anyone wishing to make a financial contribution may send it to Our Father’s Table, P.O. Box 916, Marlborough, MA 01752.
