Region – During November’s National Home Care and Hospice Month, SALMON VNA & Hospice announced an 18-percent increase in satisfaction for its overall rating of care between March 2014 and September 2014.

According to a recent independent survey, SALMON VNA & Hospice’s overall rating of care rose from 81 to 95 percent, well over the average national rating of 92 percent. SALMON also rated higher than the national and Massachusetts averages in wound improvement, educating patients and their caregivers, and diabetes care.

SALMON Manager for Quality Improvement Michelle Duason, responsible for gathering and analyzing reports on patient satisfaction and improvement, commented, “The reports all point to the fact that our staff is providing quality care and services which directly affect patients on multiple levels. Patients are getting better in key areas, plus they like and appreciate our staff and their work.”

Director of SALMON VNA & Hospice Michele Govern added, “Home Care and Hospice Month is an opportunity for us to recognize the critical nature of our work. It’s gratifying to have concrete evidence of client satisfaction and positive health outcome reports. Our dedicated staff strives for excellence in the care provided to all our patients.”

VNA patient Louise Furcinitti, 102, receives visits from SALMON’s VNA nurses, which allows her to live independently in her second-story Milford home.

“I love those girls?they’re so nice, so polite,” she said. “I ask them a lot of questions.”

Furcinitti also benefits from SALMON’s Telehealth technology, incorporating a portable monitor to measure and communicate a patient’s vital statistics to the VNA. Access to such information in “real time” means staff responds to changes in health without delay, thus decreasing hospitalizations and emergency room visits, and improving medical outcomes.

Among the nurses, Furcinitti has the reputation of being an expert with the hi-tech Telehealth equipment.

“I use it every day when I wake up,” she claimed.

She would encourage those who are in need of home health care to consider SALMON VNA.

“They’re wonderful to me. They’re my friends now,” she remarked.
