Westborough –Westborough residents will vote only at Westborough High School (WHS) – not three other schools, depending on their address – starting with the next election.
The Board of Selectmen voted 3-0 Nov. 25 to make WHS, at 90 West Main St., the town’s polling place, effective immediately.
Residents living in voting precincts 1 and 3 have voted in the gym at Sarah W. Gibbons Middle School, 20 Fisher St. Residents living in precinct 2 have voted in the gym at Elsie A. Hastings Elementary School, 111 East Main St., while residents living in precincts 4 and 5 have voted at Mill Pond School, 6 Olde Hickory Path.
Having one polling place instead of three means Election Day problems now can “all be fixed at one time,” said Town Clerk Wendy Mickel, who presented the change to the selectmen.
Westborough also will save money on police and custodial services that day, she said.
Mickel said she has discussed the topic with School Superintendent Amber Bock and WHS Principal Brian Callaghan.
Mickel said WHS’ elevators and its three entrances and exits should address a concern she has heard about “getting in and out of the building.”
“We’re going to make access easy for people to get in and out,” she said.
