Marlborough – The Massachusetts Executive Office of Public Safety and Security has awarded a $99,805 grant to the Marlborough Police Department. These funds from the FY 2015 State 911 Department Support and Incentive Grant Program will be utilized to offset personnel costs in the Public Safety dispatching center as well as to cover fire alarm and alerting equipment to provide enhanced 911 service. Councilors approved the grant at the request of Mayor Arthur Vigeant at the Dec. 1 meeting.
A second grant, in the amount of $1,000, was also received by the Police Department as part of Target’s Heroes and Helpers program. It will be used to purchase Target gift cards for children participating in the program. According to Police Chief Mark F. Leonard, each child in the program will be paired with a Marlborough police officer who will help choose gifts for the child’s family using one of the donated gift cards.
“We will simply be turning the $1,000 back over to Target as we participate with them,” said Chief Leonard.
The event is scheduled to take place Friday, Dec. 12, at the Target store on Boston Post Road East in Marlborough. Councilors approved the grant.
