Obit Edith HaleHudson – Edith B. (Woodman) Hale, 95, of Hudson, formerly of Norwood, died at home Saturday, Dec. 27, 2014, surrounded by her loving family. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 62 years, Ralph C. Hale.

She leaves her children, Paul Hale and his wife Louise, Karen Warren and her husband Kent, Laura Kent and her husband Stephen, and Ellen Cantrill and her husband Wayne. She also leaves a sister-in-law, Beverly Mahoney, and eight grandchildren, Lori Zacharias, Amy McKeown, Adam Warren, Joshua Sampson, Rachael Ancahas, Daniel Sudberry, David Hale, and Brian Hale, as well as seven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her granddaughter, Kaitlyn Sudberry.

She was born in Everett, daughter of the late Willard and Mary Woodman. She was raised in Canton, where she attended local schools and was a graduate of Canton High School. After marrying she moved to Norwood, where she lived for over 50 years.

Prior to being married, she worked at the Edison Company in Boston. After raising her family of four, she returned to the workplace in a variety of positions. For many years, she was an administrative assistant for the Massachusetts Social Services Department in the town of Norwood, where she significantly impacted many people’s lives. She was an active member of the Norwood American Legion Post 70.

Her hobbies included camping, golfing, gardening, and playing scrabble, but her real gift was her crocheting. The benefactors of her many mittens, slippers, afghans, etc. included her family and friends, but also military personnel and the newborn babies who were saved through the Clearway Clinic in Worcester.

Calling hours at the Tighe Hamilton Funeral Home, 50 Central St., Hudson, will be held Monday, Dec. 29, from 5-8 p.m. If possible, please either wear or bring to the wake a gift that Edith might have made for you. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, Dec. 30, at 10 a.m., in St. Matthias Church, 409 Hemenway St., Marlborough. Burial will follow at 1 p.m. in Knollwood Memorial Park, 321 High St., Canton.

Edith specifically requested that flowers be kept to a minimum and that memorial donations may be made to the Kaitlyn Sudberry Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o Ellen Cantrill, 1860 NH Route 119, Rindge, NH 03461.
