Northborough – The Algonquin Regional High School Tomahawks boys and girls basketball teams defeated the Westborough High School Rangers in back-to-back games played Jan. 3.
The Algonquin girls topped Westborough 47-26 in the first game of the evening. Senior Emily Carens was the top scorer for Algonquin with 14 points and junior Caroline Leonard contributed 9. Freshman Melissa Mitrovich was the top scorer for Westborough with 9 points. Algonquin’s record improves to 3-1 while Westborough falls to 2-4. The Algonquin girls are now ranked fourth in the most recent Central Mass. girls’ basketball media poll.
The Algonquin boys defeated Westborough 55-44 in a hard-fought game. Algonquin junior Jake Clark scored 26 points for Algonquin, including 8 3-pointers. Senior Connor Fitzgerald was the top scorer for Westborough with 19 points and junior Colin Donovan added 12. The Algonquin boys’ record in now 4-1 while Westborough drops to 1-6 on the season.
