Southborough – Catherine I. (Gillis) Lyons, 87, of Southborough and formerly of Waltham, died Thursday, Jan. 1, 2015, surrounded by her family. She was the wife of the late Mylon A. Lyons, who passed away in 2007. Catherine and Mylon spent 12 winters during their retirement in Dunedin, Fla. with many “snowbirds.”
Born in Mabou, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, she was the daughter of the late Neil and Elizabeth (MacDonald) Gillis. She was raised in Nova Scotia and lived there until her mid-twenties. She then joined her older sister in Somerville working many jobs. She met the love of her life, Mylon Lyons, and married him in 1956.
Catherine was a homemaker and devoted her life to her family. She was predeceased by 11 brothers and sisters, and was the last surviving Gillis of Mabou Ridge, Nova Scotia.
She is survived by her children, Mylon Lyons Jr. and his wife Karen of Waltham, Edward Lyons of Quincy, Betty Lyons of Lowell, John Lyons and his wife Mary of Southborough, and Darlene Mancuso and her husband David of Lakeville; seven grandchildren, James and Katelyn Lyons, Brooke Lyons, Max, Charlie, and Owen Lyons, and Kristin Mancuso; and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass was held Jan. 5 at St. Matthew Church of Southborough, followed by burial in the Linwood Cemetery of Weston.
