Westborough – The Algonquin Regional High School Tomahawks swim team defeated the Westborough High School Rangers, 94-76, in a meet held at the Boroughs Family YMCA Jan. 11. The victory extends the Tomahawks’ streak to 51consecutive wins over the past four years.
Three Algonquin swimmers won two events each. Senior Drew Beland won the 200-yard freestyle (1:52.34) and 500-yard freestyle (4:58.72) races. Senior Jonathan Batista won the 200-yard individual medley (2:07.03) and the 100-yard backstroke (56.78). Junior Kevin Shi won the 50-yard freestyle (24.03) and 100-yard freestyle (52.71).
The Rangers relay team of Jared Wong, Nathan VonDerVellen, Savant Liu and Ryan Shufflebarger won the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:40.49. Wong also won the 100-yard Butterfly with a time of 55.54.
The Tomahawks’ record improves to 7-0 (5-0 in Midland Wachusett League). The Rangers suffered their first loss of the season, falling to 7-1 (5-1 in Mid-Wach).
