Shrewsbury – Catherine M. “Kitty” George, 83, a longtime Shrewsbury resident, died peacefully Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2015 in the Kindred Center of Westborough.
Catherine is survived by her two loving sisters, Louise George and Marie Smith, both of Shrewsbury, and many nephews, nieces, great-nephews, great-nieces, and great-great-nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by six brothers, George, Johnny “Ringo” Anthony, Peter, Albert, and Junnie, and two sisters, Rita Panarelli, and Genevieve Mastrototaro.
Catherine was born in Worcester, daughter of the late Charles and Eva (George) George, and lived in Shrewsbury most of her life. She also lived in Arizona for several years before returning to Shrewsbury.
“Kitty” always worked in the restaurant business. She worked at the family business the Boulevard Diner for several years, and then went out on her own to open her restaurant, Kitty’s Place on Lake Avenue which she ran for many years before she retired. She attended Our Lady of Mercy Church and also St. Anne’s Church in Shrewsbury.
She was always a happy person that loved being around people, especially children. She loved her work and also enjoyed drawing and gambling. However, her most treasured times where those spent with her family. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
Catherine’s funeral will be held Saturday, Jan. 17 from the Mercadante Funeral Home & Chapel, 370 Plantation St., Worcester, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in the Church of Our Lady of Mercy, 341 June St. Calling hours will be held Friday, Jan. 16, from 4-7 p.m. Private entombment will be in Notre Dame Cemetery mausoleum.
