Shrewsbury – The Lakeway Business District Association (LBDA) has announced the launch of its 2015 Membership Drive for local sponsors and members.

Formed in January 2010, the LBDA is an association of local business and property owners with a mission to create economic growth to new and existing businesses on Route 9 in Shrewsbury, while preserving and enhancing the landscape improvements in the “Lakeway Business District” area of Route 9, from the Burns Bridge to the Oak Street intersection. Through membership support, the LBDA has been able to accomplish many things over the last five years, including: light pole banners to promote local businesses; a walking map of the district highlighting all members and sponsors; booth at Spirit of Shrewsbury and antique vehicles in the Spirit of Shrewsbury Parade; representation at Town Meeting to receive authorization of $3,500 for landscaping; speakers at a variety of meetings to discuss local by-laws, ways to promote retail businesses, SELCO services, and advertising services with Prime Media; and maintaining the upkeep of the plantings in the public medians and sidewalks.

“Joining the LBDA is good for our community,” said Jay Thomas, LBDA chair and co-owner of Thomas Auto Parts. “This support allows us to further projects we’ve accomplished so far and take on additional initiatives that will promote the businesses in the Lakeway Business District.”

An upcoming board meeting will take place Wednesday, March 11, at 1 p.m. at 298 Boston Turnpike, Suite 7, Shrewsbury. Members and prospective members are encouraged to attend. On Tuesday, March 31, from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m., the Annual Open Forum will be held for the general public who want to learn more about the organization and network with other business owners. The forum will take place at the Shrewsbury Public Library, 214 Lake St. Mark Waxler from Waxler Hospitality Group will be the featured guest speaker.
