Marlborough – The Indian Circle of Caring (ICC) has announced a new initiative for independent retirement living and assisted living for Indian seniors at New Horizons in Marlborough, developed by the Cummings Foundation. This facility, which occupies the full first floor of a building, will offer Indian cuisine and a social and religious environment specifically designed for the Indian community.
“The facility and amenities are specifically tailored to fulfill our community’s needs,” said Girish A. Mehta, ICC founder and executive director. “We are pleased the Cummings Foundation will be adding India House to New Horizons. We are working cohesively with [founder] Bill Cummings to make it all happen.”
Plans are for 10 units suitable for individuals or couples, featuring one-bedroom and two-bedroom units, all to be completed and ready for occupancy this summer.
ICC is a volunteer-based nonprofit organization providing urgent or emergency support for fellow community members and their families.
Since ICC was formed in August 2007, members have been building awareness by working with existing social, religious and professional services, the media and other organizations as well as participating in various social events. Their concerted efforts have brought them active support from over 60 organizations. Among them are Saheli, the Indian Medical Association of New England (IMANE), the Arthritis Foundation of America, and the Mass. Department of Public Health.
In recognition of their approach and accomplishments, in May 2010 ICC was invited to a celebration of “Social Innovation,” a special event held at the White House, hosted by the First Lady Michelle Obama.
An important part of the ICC is the large group of volunteers that is growing daily. They help support community members in need as well as helping ICC with a variety of activities to help fulfill their mission.
