Obit-Flag_USE-THIS-ONE4Marlborough – Raymond R. Cardinal, 80, died Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2015 after a long period of failing health. He was the husband of Delia (Haddad) Cardinal, to whom he was married for 40 years.

He was born in Fitchburg, the son of the late Udege and Marian (Maxwell) Cardinal, and moved to Marlborough in 1999.

Mr. Cardinal was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving in the Korean War. He was employed as a custodian for the town of Natick in the high school and the town hall, and retired as head custodian at the Natick Town Hall. He was a longtime member of the Golden Airs choral group in Natick.

Besides his wife, he is survived by three sons, Raymond Cardinal of Leominster, John Cardinal and his wife Cheryl of Gardner, and James Cardinal and his wife Donna of Leominster; two daughters, Laura L’Ecuyer of Athol and Nancy Dawson and her husband Mel of Leominster; one brother, Arthur Cardinal of Florida; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two grandchildren; three brothers, Murray, Armand, and Edmund Cardinal; and three sisters, Mary Norton, Flora Daley, and Irene Cardinal.

His funeral will be held Monday, March 2, at 11 a.m., in the William R. Short and Son Funeral Home (www.shortfuneral.com), 95 West Main St., Marlborough. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. Visiting hours at the funeral home will be held Monday morning, from 9:30-11 a.m., prior to the service.
