Region – February 2015 will long be remembered as a month filled with endless snow, arctic temperatures and frayed nerves. Although we’ve all had our share of struggles with ice dams and clogged driveways it has also had a huge impact on the economy with decreased local spending and diminished sales and meals tax revenues. Restaurants, shops, and small businesses have all suffered because customers have been snowbound. In fact, Michael Goodman, an economist at UMass Dartmouth, said that this year’s weather could potentially cost the state several billion dollars in lost revenue.
We’d like to remind all our readers to get out and support local businesses…dollars spent locally go a long way toward strengthening our hometown economy.
