Marlborough – The number 2 seed Shrewsbury High School Colonials boys ice hockey team defeated the number 3 seed Algonquin Regional High School Tomahawks by a score of 7-3 in a Central Mass. Division 3 semi-final playoff game held March 4. The game was played at the New England Sports Center in Marlborough.
The Colonials scored four goals in the first period, building a lead that the Tomahawks were never able to overcome. The teams traded goals after that point, with both teams scoring twice in the second period and once in the third period.
Shrewsbury’s Joseph Buduo scored 3 goals and also tallied an assist in the victory. Brayden Carroll contributed 2 goals and 2 assists. Trevor Shea and Matt Ward also scored for Shrewsbury.
The Algonquin goals were scored by John Paterson, Matt Tozeski and Joe Sullivan.
The Colonials will play North Middlesex in the Central Division 3 finals, to be held in Fitchburg on March 9. The Tomahawks conclude their season with a 12-5-4 record.
