MHS Jazz Ensemble takes top state honor

Marlborugh – The Marlborough High School (MHS) Jazz Ensemble and Director Gary Piazza earned a gold medal at the Division I State Festival at Framingham High School March 22.The MHS Jazz Ensemble’s recent gold medal rating at the Central District level allowed them to compete again with fellow gold medal-winning high school jazz bands from other districts throughout the state.

The following MHS students received a Recognition of Outstanding Musicianship special honor: trumpeter Connor Bailey, alto saxophonist Justin Bartlett, trombonist David Coughlin, and alto saxophonist Sarah Hanahan. Additionally, Hanahan received this year’s Division I Most Valuable Player award, presented by the judges to one student who they deem most deserving of special recognition.
